Nelson F. Everhardt is the founder and president of Everhardt & Associates, LLC, an independent consulting firm specializing in proactive compliance solutions to bank and non-bank financial institutions. He is an expert on anti-money laundering compliance programs.

Prior to moving into private practice, Mr. Everhardt served as senior vice president and corporate compliance executive for Bank of America, where his responsibilities included corporate-wide administration of the Bank Secrecy Act, Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), and Enscheatment Compliance Programs. In addition, he managed bank information systems (BIS) compliance, which served as the liaison to the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), and the Federal Reserve Bank for matters involving technology and operational compliance. He also served for six years as Bank of America’s manager of global payments operations.

Mr. Everhardt was Vice Chairman of the US SWIFT National Group and chaired the Repsonsibility and Liability Subcommittee. He has served on the Board of the International Banking Operations Association (IBOA) and on the ABA Funds Transfers Task Force. He also served as chairman of the International Financial Services Association (IFSA), formerly the US Council on International Banking.

Clayton P. Gillette, esq, the nation’s top authority on protections against check fraud, is a professor of law at New York University School of Law. Mr. Gillette regularly consults financial institutions on issues regarding negotiable instruments and trains staff on how to detect and prevent problems, from fraud to compliance violations.

Prior to his law school career, Professor Gillette served with the law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York City. His expertise has been in commercial law, particularly banking law. He has written extensively on financial institution liabilities regarding payment systems and negotiable instruments.

Professor Gillette is the author of a series of popular and highly respected manuals on check fraud protection.

Richard F. Cross, CCP, is President of Risk Management Group, Inc., one of the nation’s foremost security consulting firms for the financial services industry. A leading expert across all areas of bank security, Mr. Cross works closely with hundreds of banking institutions, both large and small, on improving security programs and training "frontline" staff, as well as security and compliance officers.

Mr. Cross has 40 years experience in security, loss prevention, investigative, and executive positions. He has provided security consulting and expert witness testimony for financial institutions worldwide and has served as security advisor to the President’s Science Advisory Committee.

The firm’s clients have included trade associations including the American Banker’s Association (ABA) and the Bank Administration Institute (BAI), as well as banks of all sizes, including J.P. Morgan Chase, First Tennessee Bank, Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, First National Bank of Chicago, Banco Real, Union Planter’s Bank, and Hibernia National Bank. Prior to his banking career, Mr. Cross served as security officer at the Institute of Defense Analysis and at the Central Intelligence Agency. He also served as President of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), a leading trade association for commercial security administrators, and as President of the Professional Certification Board for that organization.

Mr. Cross has been the foremost expert in bank security programs for several decades. Author of Bank Security Desk Reference, the foundation treatise on the topic, Mr. Cross advises hundreds of institutions, both large and small on training staff on security measures.

Cornelia Matthews is owner of Cornelia Matthews & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in operations productivity reviews, human resources department organization, and operations training programs. An experienced banker with both large and small banks, Ms. Matthews and her firm regularly conducts risk and efficiency assessments at financial institutions, to determine problem areas for the institutions where training could improve performance. Following up, Ms. Matthews will prepare training curricula for frontline employees that is backed up by regular assessments and reviews.

Ms. Matthews is one of the nation’s leaders in financial institution staff training, with 25 years of financial service experience in operations and staff training and 17 years of experience as an instructor for the American Institute of Banking. She is the author of the nation’s leading teller manual, Model Teller Training. In her practice, she regularly focuses on core teller staff understanding of professional demeanor, customer service, regulatory compliance standards, and handling of transactions.   • Linda K. Dent is Director of Regulatory Compliance and Senior Compliance Counsel to NAFCU. Ms. Dent has been in the financial institutions industry since 1982 with a short hiatus to work for a general litigation office. She has worked in both the federal credit union and commercial bank sectors of the industry, primarily in the area of financial analysis.
  • Robert Byrer is Regulatory Compliance Counsel at NAFCU. Before joining NAFCU, Mr. Byrer was Corporate Editor at Airline Tariff Publishing Company. He previously had his own law practice where he focused on employment and disability issues.
  • Melane Conyers-Ausbrooks is Regulatory Compliance Counsel at NAFCU. Mrs. Ausbrooks joined NAFCU after working as a law clerk for the Fairfax County Attorney’s Office. Before attending law school, she worked as a system’s trainer for SallieMae’s collections and federal compliance software.
  • Eric Envall is Regulatory Compliance Counsel at NAFCU. Prior to joining NAFCU, Mr. Envall was a legislative analyst for MultiState Associates, Inc. of Alexandria, VA where he conducted legislative and regulatory tracking and analysis on several national issues.
  • Bill Hall is Associate Director of Taxation and Accounting at NAFCU. He is a graduate of the Vermont Law School and holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Davidson College.
